SECOND GENERATION

10. GEORGE WIGHT was born on 4 May 1793 in SCOTLAND. He died on 26 Apr 1865 in WINTERSET, MADISON CO. IOWA. In about 1831, George moved from Kentucky to Indiana and in about 1842,
he moved to Illinois. The 1850 Census of Knox County, Illinois, shows
George as 57 years of age and his occupation as a farmer, it indicates
his property is worth $3,500.00 and he was born in Scotland. The census
shows George's wife Dicy, his sons James, George, Marion, John and
daughter Nancy as living on the farm also. In 1864, George and his
family moved to Madison County, Iowa, where he spent the rest of his
life. George's marriage to Dica Anderson is recorded in Flemingsburg,
Fleming County, Kentucky. Family information states that George and Dica
sent to Scotland for their cemetery markers. They are both buried in the
Wight Cemetery, outside of Winterset, in Madison County, Iowa and
George's headstone reads, D. April 25, 1866
Age 71y 11m 17d.

He was married to DICEY ANDERSON on 15 Sep 1817 in FLEMINGSBURG, FLEMING CO. KENTUCKY. DICEY ANDERSON was born on 29 May 1800 in KENTUCKY. She died on 17 Nov 1886 in WEBSTER TOWNSHIP, MADISON CO. IOWA. Dicey was the daughter of Edward Anderson and Bathsheba (Payne)
Anderson. The 1850 Census of Knox County shows Dicy as 53 years of age
and shows her living on their farm with her husband George and their
children. The death records for Madison County, Iowa, shows that Dicey
passed away in 1886, in Webster Township, that she was sick five days
from phlebitis and her attending physician as Dr. A. Ramsey. She is
buried at the Wight Cemetery in Webster Township, Iowa, her headstone
reads Dicey D. Nov. 17, 1886 Age 88y 9m 18d.
