72. JAMES WIGHT was born on 19 Feb 1755 in ENGLAND.
He died in 1796 in RICHMOND, VIRGINIA. In about 1794, James sold the brewery
in the Ormiston area of Scotland
that he owned with his father and brought his wife and children to
America. The official note of their departure is dated, August 6,
1794. They first came to Richmond, Virginia. It is said that he bought
a tract of land " on the banks of the Potomac River", and that he
kept
fine horses there. Others say that their land was at the forks of the
James River. In 1796, James died suddenly. He is said to be buried in
Virginia. That is all that is known of him at this time.

73. JANE ( ? ) WIGHT died in 1826 in MAYSVILLE, MASON CO. KENTUCKY">.
She was born in SCOTLAND. Jane immigrated from Scotland to Virginia on August
6, 1794. It is said
that it was Jane's oldest children who formed and carried out the plan to
move to Kentucky, as her husband James, had died in 1796. This move was
in about 1800. Upon coming to Kentucky, she bought a farm adjoining that
of General Pogue. It is also said that Jane lived with her youngest
child Tobias, on a farm in Spencer County, Kentucky, in the last years
before her death in 1826. The first record located of this family is in
Flemingsburg, Fleming County, Kentucky. Recorded there is the will of
Jane Wight, widow, dated November 5, 1826. The will mentions Betty
Bowman (Beatrix Wight), Alice Fields (Wight), Catherine Reid (Wight),
Andrew Wight, Jemina Evans (Wight), Tobias Wight, George Wight and Alex
Wight. She also mentions a grandson, Gideon and one son of Alex as well
as friends William P. Fleming and Martin P. Marshall. Witnesses to the
will were M. P. Marshall, R. F. Carr and Obea P. Nute. Jane is buried at

JAMES WIGHT was born on 24 Feb 1789 in ORMISTON, SCOTLAND. He died on 22
Apr 1871 in NORMAL, MCLEAN CO. ILLINOIS. James was the founder of the Wight
family in America. Born at Ormiston,
near Edinburgh, Scotland, on February 24, 1789. He came to America with
his parents, James and Jane Wight in 1794 and they settled near Richmond,
Virginia. After his father died in about 1796, the family moved to the
Flemingsburg area of Fleming County, Kentucky and later moved again to
Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky. He obtained his education in the
common schools of the country districts. James was a soldier in the War
of 1812. He married Sarah Ratcliff in 1815, ( some records show
12-7-1815) in Frankfort. While residing there he was a cabinet workman
and contractor and built the statehouse or state capitol building. In
about 1836, he took his family to Shelby County, Kentucky, where he
bought a farm. The 1850 census of Shelby County, shows that James owned
land valued at eleven hundred dollars and still living at home with he
and his wife Sarah, were Rebecca, Emily and John. James was a member of
the Methodist Church, South. Although it is known that James died in
McLean County, Illinois, at the home of one of his daughters, it is not
known at this time when he moved to Illinois. He is said to be buried in
Shelby County, Kentucky.

is recorded by the United Presbyterian Church in the
Journal of the Reverand Joseph P. Howe, Pastor of Springfield and Mount
Sterling Churches, Kentucky. Nothing further is known about Alexander
but it is reasonable to assume that he had at least one son and was not
living when his mother, Jane, wrote her will in Fleming County, Kentucky
in 1826.
